City Council 01/02/2013; So light your torches, sharpen your pitchforks and get your mob on.

The new year got off to a rousing start as angry, crying citizens flocked to City Hall to voice their outrage and anger at gun shows.
But first on a sad note a well-dressed man was sitting in council chambers with his young wife and two beautiful daughters. He was agitated and nervous, he asked me about the public comment period. I said you must be here about the gunshow? He said he wasn’t but that I would find out soon enough.
His name was Turcotte and he was fireman who was fired 7 days shy of the end of his probation period. He said he was well trained, never disciplined and has no idea why he was fired. I will be looking into this in great detail. The poor guy was just unlucky because this was mob night and they wanted gun show blood not real life tragedy. They were on a completely meaningless crusade

I spoke next and pointed out some reality to them. Like the casual sale of a rifle between two individuals is legal. That unlike private sales that are unregulated, gun show sales have to go through a background check. Further that “want ad digest” was the largest promoter of these unregulated casual sales. That even if you do did cancel the sale they would just move 17 miles to the Glens Falls Civic Center. Then I reminded the council that just two weeks ago you were showering the Saratoga Civic Center with praise.

Then what came next was a sort of group therapy that gave each of these progressive democrats a forum to show off their extremely interesting and unique personalities. Mob organizers Susan Steer a political activist  read her anti-gun manifesto. She has been very active in the past demonizing the Club House in the racetrack {she couldn’t get a table, they obviously didn’t know who she was} .

She also penned this letter about Congressman Murphy
"To Congressman Murphy: I am a constituent who resides in Saratoga Springs and a lifelong Democrat. I voted for you in 2008, and was excited to have you represent my district and me. That said, I am writing to tell you that I am thoroughly disappointed, to say the least, at your “no” vote on the House’s health care bill.

I have written to your office before about how important this legislation is. I am a nurse and am fully aware of the consequences that the lack of health care has on people, especially women.

Health care is a right, not a privilege for those of us who are able to afford it, those of us old enough to qualify for Medicare, or those of us poor enough to qualify for Medicaid.

Yes, I know that this district is a marginal district, and perhaps you were seriously jeopardizing your re-election prospects by voting “yes” on this bill, but as a Democrat representing this district, I cannot understand your vote. Even newly elected Bill Owens, a Democrat who arguably represents a district more conservative than ours, had the bravery to look beyond politics and vote his conscience. I can only conclude that your vote demonstrates that you either do not understand how important this bill is to providing health care for every person in this country or you put politics over your convictions. Either way, you have lost the opportunity to say that you were part of a historic moment in American politics.

I am thrilled, however, that despite your “no” vote the measure passed. That said, this issue is so important to me that I am sorry to say that I will no longer support you in any way. I will even go so far as to say that I will actively seek and support a Democrat who challenges you in a primary.

Susan Steer, Saratoga Springs"
That letter helped to give the election to the Republican Gibson. Yes Susan gets things done

Then we had one women weeping telling the council that her ex-something was abusive and after she was granted an order of protection the police would not take away her ex’s guns. She did not say the name of the cop who is her ex{OK I made that part up} But seriously the gun show has nothing to do with that. Take it up with Toothy or Chief Cole. You have every right to demand his guns be taken from him.
Then the rest were the usual suspects. Charlie Brown, Billy McTygue, crying that he went to Newtown days after the shooting to “help” . WTF help? With what, disaster tourism? Mercifully when Ms.Steer tried to read off the murdered children’s names in a cheap stunt  that crossed over into the realm of Histrionic personality disorder the Mayor cut her off.

Then the Council commented about the symbolic resolution in front of them. Franck told me literally to “drag my ass to Glens Falls, he doesn’t want no dam gun shows in town. John where’s the love? Didn’t you like the “I got wasted in Club Shadow and all I got is a lousy t-shirt, a lost phone and a police report” T-shirt I gave you for Christmas?   Madagan sounded normal and said she doesn’t want the gun show to be cancelled. Even Commissioner of DPW, Anthony “Skip” Scirocco sounded reasonable and proposed a gun buyback program. Toothy was also reasonable and so was the Mayor. They toughened the resolution to politly ask if they don’t mind to much, would you please not sell or display any of the nasty mean looking things at the gun show.It passed 5 to 0
The mob got there bone, declared victory, crawled off to the nearest bar to get sloshed then crawl into the SUV and drive home.
In other real news the  FBI reported that gun background checks hit record highs Story HERE  Ms Steers is not going to like that

Till next time
Saratoga in Decline
We never Sleep
Because there’s drunken cougars out there

Wow! You are quick. Good job.

There was only one thing they forgot to mention. Guns don't kill people - people do and in the last two cases mentally ill peopel as were involved in the last two episodes. As a nurse Mrs. Steer should have been familiar with the background of the people involved. No question Skippy has joined the Democratic train to protect his position. The Party should toss him out and his family off the Committee.

Billy McTygue never does anything unless it is for himself,he must be missing that 100k a year paycheck...

Good job helping the citizenry stay informed.

Billy Mctygue will be the next Commissioner of DPW,skeltons in Skippys' closet are starting to stick their heads out,the wilton water deal for one,and was he paid to scrape the Saratoga Lake option? It's all about the water stupid!

You are right on about Billy. He is the democratic whore, enforcer and puppetmaster. He will use anyone including the people who stabbed his brother in the back to get to Skippy. These people never go away. They are like a bad dream that keeps reoccuring.

John Franck is not the same person he was awhile back,he now openly uses four letter curse words at City Council meetings and belittles his supporters he is acting as if the job of being the Accounts Commissioner owes him something-- might be time for him to head towards the sunset, once there was so much promise now that promise has become rank....been there to long!

Does Susan Steer represent what's between Four Winds and Ms. Dullmoon, where is Professor Erwin Corey when you need him?

Anonymous said...

Ditto on Frank and McTygue! Time for them to hit the skids!

John, you run the risk of becoming irrelevant if you lose some of your earlier objectivity. As a gun owner, you can't imagine someone speaking out regarding the illegal use of firearms and the concern for the epidemic rise in sales of automatic terminator guns.

You have written many pieces on personal issues that are not always universally understood or appreciated, yet I believe most of your readers would agree that behind much of them is a desire to provide opinions. Your personal ranting on cult life was just one example. Living now outside of the city limits (is that correct?), you may only be seen as a shit stirrer when you slander residents with “little dirt” in the game.

While the obvious frequent need to opine every day on matters, it might be wiser to consider more with less. The countdown clock is a clever statement.

The lack of decorum at the Council Meeting was quite evident. Commissioners calling each other by first names etc. The meeting sounds like the ones at Mama Mia's or the local bar rather than a professional Council Meeting.Joh has alway used language at the Council table that undermines his professionalism. Once the dominant conservative voice now a shell of what he was a few years back. I have always had a high level of respect for John but that is slowly diminishing.

Billy will be a good Commissioner he'll bring alot intellectual energy to the Dept.(Which is needed)and his soft-key approach to issues will also be a positive, nothing but positives.... a far cry to what is there now. I wonder if Scarerocco will primary Billy?

If BM is the only person willing to take on the PWD, then I say give him another shot. SS is running that department into the ground and down the sewer (Skippy's idea of grounds, water and sewer management).

Anon 7:35 AM: Hey, JFranck was never the golden boy of the Democratic party or the Republican party for that matter, although he did cross discussion lines at times to his credit. I even remember seeing JT at his house once or twice at social events, yet now there are issues. One can't please everyone all the time and having to represent all of the constituents from time to time will bruise a few egos. Look, both parties .. are often blinded by their inability to see the forest for the trees holding fast to some ideologies that hardly represent the population or the city's interests. JF has kept his costs down as he once promised. His hair is still short.

What's up with four letter words and decorum? Good John (T&F).

I've never been to a city council meeting before last nite and I'm glad I went to support the Gun ban, what really shocked me though was the Commissioner of DPW I always imagined he was this big burly strapping sort of a man who could speak well on topic, well other than that I'm glad I went.

Scirrocco'sidea of his job is to pave one block every summer in every part of town abandoning the park and all of the properties he is supposed to maintain. The city looks seedy before the summer, during the summer and before all of the holidays. He's only spent money on the drink hall that was deferred payment for never fixing the roof each year. I guess he has a new tv in his office and a truck.
No snow for two years and the city employees in that department can't be utilized for productive work!!
incompetent!

Why does Franck want to be dog-catcher is that the launching pad all saratoga politicians use----dog catcher first and then the sky is the limit...well he can swear but can he catch a dog??

God, am I really happy I am a gun owner --- just to protect my family and my property against these socialist (communist wannabees) like Susan Sheer and her pathetic, lame, pacifist, Nazi-era "it can't happen to me" German-Jewish agenda of contrition.

Fine, Susan. don't arm yourself. Didn't the German-Jews of the 1930's learn ANYTHING? Complacency might work for you but it will NOT work for the lost of us. Learn from the past Susan. considering the atrocities of the holocost, we would think our American-Jewish friends would be armed to the teeth. But no. They, once again will leave that ugly job to the rest of us to sacrifice our friends and families for their failed, socialist (sick) was of life. And NO, we am NOT taking the flu vaccine.

And yes, Susan, we do understand how much you hated loud bangs as a child and guns do make loud bangs. Get over it. Don't fuck with our liberty.

Am I the only one laughing about a "gun buyback program" in Saratoga Springs?!?

Where was this woman, who is a nurse, to offer her two cents, when it could actually HELP, when someone DIED from lack of medical care and attention at the SSPD HQ? There was actually a tragedy, in our city, and Susan was silent. Her skills and training could help, and she sat on her hands. What happened there Susan?

Drag your ass to Glens Falls, where the mayor wants to close the bars at 2 am.

What a joke, and J Franck thinks he made some kind of dramatic statement.!!

Grandstanding at its worst.

A useless resolution, a waste of everyone's time.

And two commisssioners had "no business at this time" but the meeting dragged on anyway.

Times Union this morning - The Governor came out strongly in favor of a Gun Show and sale in Albany. Sounds like a communication problem or someone is wise or someone places his personal prejudice against the Constitution of the United States. Maybe Matthieson should have been on the SUPREME COURT. Not the real one, the one in his head!!! What's the scoop with the terminated fireman without cause. Did he ruffle the Chief's ultimate superior control mentality.

Scirocco's dept hasn't had to deal with a major snow storm in 2 1/2 - 3 yrs. but when there a 2 major storms in a row and he doesn't declair a snow emergency??? NO! Not, him, not Deputy Cogan, or Self Appointed Commissioner Donna! Let's not forget this was days before First Night and thousands of people visiting the city. Now the crews are coming in at 4AM to clear snow that could have been taken care of DURING the storm. He buys cars, SUV, and vans when all the trucks are being taken off the road. Can't wait to see Skippy driving around in his SUV with a plow in the front & no city decal. Anyone, at all will be better that what we've been dealing wiht for the past 4 yrs. B. McTygue could run the dpw dept. 100% better than the way it's being, actually not being managed now. Someone, anyone must run against him.

I was told dep. cogan has no city emblem on the deputys'pick-up either...why not?,plowing some where when you shouldn't be?

Hey-- Victoria Pool girl:

Woody Allen once said (in so many words): "Criticize them, question them and you'll be branded anti-semitic and they start writing letters!

You and your kind (of your mind set) don't realize that WE are the ones that got your backs! WE are the ones that protect your precious freedoms and your liberty. Don't like the straight talk? Too bad. It is what it is.

If the shop owners in Germany were all armed with shotguns on the nights of Nov. 9-10, 1938; do you think those thugs would have been able to cause all that damage? What? Huh? Google Kristallnacht and get educated.

If we do not learn from history, history will be repeated. Germany was for some, a very well-off, respected nation in the 1930's; with a very troubled working class. Fast forward to USA 2012. Have we learned ANYTHING from our past? My family is from old Europe. We do not need your anti-semitic posturing. And I am not honored to be of the Hebrew persuasion. But know this, as father was proud to say; "We protected our Jews."

We are Judeo-Christians. We are on your side. Some know us as Catholics. Deal with it.

I really had to laugh (to myself, of course) when I heard the council call on Asst. city atty Izzo for clarification on the gun show.
It's pretty well known in these parts, that Izzo owns probably more guns than the entire police dept.
Here is a guy who is a weapons expert, owns AK47 etc. and is giving advice to a city council about how they can possibly stop a gun show that he will probably attend and also purchase another weapon for his large collection.
And the real city attorney was present at the meeting, yet said nothing.
Amazing, you can't make this up.

I think the city should Ban all RV shows.
You have a retired professor and a retired maternity nurse who decide to buy a 50 foot Bus RV and travel the country.
They go to hess and fill the 150 gallon fuel tank, then fill the 200 pound propane tank.
They go to their house and load all there belongings in,last but not least they hook up their Kia to the trailer hitch with a full tank of fuel
So you now have 70 feet of explosives 170 gallons of fuel and 200pounds of propane going down the road at 70 MPH with someone driving who has never drove something this long.
Why is it that a CDL driver licence is required for a 70 foot tractor trailer carrying Fuel or Propane???and must stop at truck inspections, and not these people.
What happens if one of them has a heart attack in rush hour traffic while driving and kills everyone around them?????? nothing because their is no ban on assault RV'S

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:40: I like that, but what is the reason for owning an assault weapon?

Anonymous said...

8:49AM because you can.

Anonymous said...

8:49
The reason is that in The United States Of America citizens can own any weapon with the proper courses, permits, and backround checks,it's called Liberty and Freedom.

What is an assault weapon?????
I could use a air powered nail gun as a weapon and fire 100 nails just as fast,,,,,but then all these new homes would not be built as fast, would they???
Let me ask you this why did schools do away with battle ball at gym class? I always thought it was FUN.....you know the answer don't ya

You might want to read the Supreme Court's 2008 opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller. It states "the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited." Justice Scalia said on Fox News Sunday, "the Second Amendment leaves room for U.S. legislatures to regulate guns"
